By moving the front face back a little, a draught lobby could be added to keep in the warmth. Daylight streams in through a glass façade and an enormous skylight. A concrete bar with a wooden countertop breaks up the length of the space and forms a natural division between the kitchen and the adjoining catering company. Windows were added between the two premises allowing the guests to see inside the kitchen. The sound-absorbent wall in the back portrays a palette of 22 colour blocks in tertiary shades. Several of these colours are also incorporated in the restaurant’s business card and the bill. |

VASD ging de uitdaging aan met de Tolhuistuin, waarvan het casco inmiddels af is. Met respect voor de karakteristieke architectuur van Arthur Staal en een minimaal budget is een heel nieuw programma ingepast in het paviljoen. Er is ruimte gemaakt voor een gloednieuwe Paradiso-popzaal, een gigantische restaurant en grand café Staal, hiphopschool Solid Ground Movement , een expositieruimte, ticket office Noord en meer. Met de aanleg van het grootste en zonnigste terras en –balkon aan het water, is het gezicht van het gebouw naar het IJ gekeerd; pak de pont en komt het zien deze zomer!
