The idea is to bring a mix of film, special events and café culture together in an old, industrial, post-war building. VASD researched the spatial possibilities of the listed building. By creating a separate unit with three different cinema auditoriums and theatres inside the building, the original structure and front façade can stay intact. The remaining space around this unit, which will still embody the industrial atmosphere of the old building, is suitable for parties, festivals and conferences. The building’s back walls can also serve as an exhibition space.Kriterion, a student-run foundation responsible for operating the Amsterdam Kriterion cinema, is seeking to open a new location in Rotterdam.
