In this information centre in the Blue Room nature reserve, visitors can choose a walking trail, drink coffee, look at films and brochures, and buy local, natural products. VASD designed the centre to work as a window onto the surrounding environment. By getting rid of the inner walls, the closed space has become light and airy. The proximity to nature can be felt throughout. The large glass siding affords summer views of galloping horses and Mulberry trees in bloom, while in winter the stillness of the landscape comes to the fore. By combining robust, tailor-made oak furniture and steel, a connection is sought between the interior and the outside world. An effect that is heightened by the broad strips of white felt on the walls which incorporate eyecatching colours inspired by the four seasons.

[tekst_en] => Fifty years ago, tobacco leaves would still be hung here to dry. Now it's a place where you can see exhibitions, find out about the surroundings and enjoy a cup of coffee. Stichting Het Utrechts Landschap commissioned VASD to design a modern visitors’ centre inside this authentic tobacco storehouse. The visitors’ centre fits inside the frame of the original building like a box. Large windows have been incorporated into unexpected areas of the walls and ceiling, revealing views of the rustic wooden exterior at every angle. The light seeping in through the old roof tiles also illuminates the new exhibition space.  Here, past and present come together as perfect partners.
