from a to b Marking 150 years of photography, Avenue, Dunhill and the Dutch Photography Foundation organised a special photo competition. The theme was: from A to B. The submission by Branko Vlamings and Jan Willem Wijker consisted of a suitcase containing 24 pinhole cameras. They had brought the suitcase with them on an architecture trip from Amsterdam to Barcelona. They visited Corbusier’s church, Gaudí’s Sagrada Família and other architectural highlights, taking pictures of each along the way. Afterwards the pictures were developed and placed on the pinhole cameras with elastics. The suitcase now serves as mini architectural exhibition. |

[tekst_en] => Transforming an uninsulated steel military depot into an accommodating exhibition area – how is that possible? Our answer is to create a new core in the heart of the old shell, thereby retaining as much of the original monument as possible. With lots of glass, interior vistas and surprising spaces there will be plenty to attract the visitors’ eye beyond the art on display. We will place a new structure inside the depot. In the winter this structure will be nice and warm, while in the summer it will remain comfortably cool. This new structure will comply with all modern construction regulations, creating a warm, inner core in the building which adapts to the different seasons. Apart from the exhibition area inside the warm core, another, outer exhibition area will recreate a sense of the outdoors, complete with an umbrella of corrugated iron. Imagine the atmosphere in this exhibition area during a summer shower!
